Make a Volcano for your science project
Here's What you want to do:
-
First make base of the. Mix 6 1/2 cups flour, 2 cups salt, 5
tablespoons cooking oil, and 2 cups of water. The mixture will be be
doughy (add more water if needed).
-
Put the soda bottle in the baking pan and mold the dough around it
into a volcano shape. Don't cover the hole or put dough into it!
-
Fill the bottle most of the way full with warm water and red food
color.
-
Add 6 drops of dawn to the bottle.
-
Add 2 tablespoons baking soda to the liquid.
-
Slowly put vinegar into the bottle. WHOA!!
Thoughts:
- The red foam is the result of a chemical
reaction between the baking soda and vinegar.
- In this reaction, carbon dioxide gas is
produced. This is also in a real volcano.
- As the carbon dioxide gas is produced,
pressure builds up inside the plastic bottle, until the gas
pours out of the 'volcano'.
